Blue Certified vs Gold Certified

If you’re interested in a CPO vehicle from a Ford dealership, then you have two levels of certification available to you: Blue Certified and Gold Certified. While both of these programs offer used cars that are in like-new condition, there are a few key differences you’re sure to take note of:

As you can see, no matter whether you choose a Blue or Gold Certified car, you’ll be treated to a host of benefits that we’ll further break down for you.

Newer Model Years and Lower Mileage

While CPO cars come with all the advantages of buying a used Ford, they also have additional benefits. Just one is that they’re guaranteed to be newer model years and have a lower mileage than some of the vehicles in the used car inventory.

The biggest difference between the two CPO programs is that any make and model can become Blue Certified, while the Gold certification is just for Ford vehicles. Additionally, Blue cars can be up to 10 model years old with less than 120,000 miles on their odometers. However, Gold Certified rides have stricter rules and must be six model years or less, with no more than 80,000 miles on their odometers.

A newer model means you can have access to more recent technology and safety systems to help enhance your daily drive.

Ford Certified Pre-Owned Inspection

Once chosen for the Ford CPO program, a vehicle must pass a rigorous inspection by a factory-certified technician. Blue Certified rides are put to the test with a 139-point inspection and the Gold program takes it up a notch with a 172-point inspection.

Both of these inspections will cover the main aspects of the vehicle, including:

Under hood

During this inspection, the technician will look over the vehicle from top to bottom, including the underbody and convenience measures, and fill the tank for you. They'll do a VIN (vehicle identification number) inspection, observe how it drives during a road test, detail the interior, and inspect the engine. If anything seems out of place during the inspection, it then must be replaced with a genuine Ford OEM part.

Ford Certified Warranty

When the vehicle passes the test, it’s held to the highest of standards. To provide you with additional peace of mind, we’ll also include a Ford Certified warranty with every CPO vehicle on our lot.

The comprehensive limited warranty covers more than 1,000 components for 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) on Gold Certified rides. We also include a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.

With the comprehensive warranty, you’ll have up to 12 months of coverage for all components, including:

Engine
Transmission
Drivetrain
Air conditioning and heating
Technology components
Safety systems

The powertrain warranty covers the under-hood components like engine, transmission, and more for up to seven years.

With Blue Certified models, you’ll be treated to a 90-day or 4,000-mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty Coverage. However, both the 2-month Comprehensive Limited Warranty Coverage and Powertrain Limited Warranty Coverage are available to add on if you’d like.

Complimentary Services

While you shop, we provide the convenience of a complimentary CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™ with every Ford CPO vehicle on our lot. This gives you a full picture of the vehicle’s history at no additional charge to you. The report covers topics like:

Number of previous owners
Maintenance records
Mileage history
Damage reports

Plus, your vehicle will include 24-hour roadside assistance, 365 days a year for 90 days with the Blue program and seven years with Gold models. This will cover towing and other expenses for a variety of coverage areas, including your powertrain, electrical system, emissions components, and safety systems.
